(I Strongly Covet) The Little Black Jacket

Oh Chanel, where do I even begin to speak of my love for all things CC??  It doesn't hurt (& taunt) that they're my initials either.  It wasn't until about my early 20's that I was able to conjure up the nerve to walk into one of their boutiques.  I must have looked like a deer in the headlights to the salesman because he immediately took me under his wing.  He asked if I was intimidated at all to walk in, not in a condescending way but more just trying to make me comfortable.  Of course I said yes, a little & he proceeded to explain how most women don't purchase their first Chanel jacket until about their mid-30's or so & it usually represents an achievement they want to celebrate like a job promotion or other milestone in life.  He pointed me to a gorgeous black cropped jacket & asked if I'd like to try it on....it honestly was a transforming experience.  It fit me like an absolute glove & the salesman told me my size "so when I was ready to come back I would know."  I'll never forget his kindness & what it felt like to wear a piece of art.  I dream of the day that a Little Black Jacket finds its home in my closet but until then I'll keep stalking them in the boutiques.  Chanel recently put on an "The Little Black Jacket" exhibit with photos by Karl Lagerfeld, which was such a treat to enjoy on a beautiful, sunny spring day in Soho.....

I was not expecting the exhibit to be in a large garage space but of course Chanel worked their magic & it was one glammed up garage, loved it!

Gabrielle keeping her eye (& scissors) on things....

Anna Wintour with her back to the peons, ha!

Large photos with color adorned one wall....

Black & whites on the rest......

And I'll leave you with these parting words....couldn't have said it better myself : )

Street Swagger- Maurice

I spotted Maurice at Georgetown Cupcake on Mercer Street (yes, I feel it is my duty as an American to stop & consume a cupcake from every cupcake shop I pass : )  I immediately loved his look- Gucci layered with Goyard & bright pops of turquoise.  But more than anything he has the sweetest disposition and an adorable smile.  Love your swag Maurice!

Elon Musk

I love nothing more in life than someone who follows their dreams with relentless determination & single-minded focus.  And heck, if they can make a mint while doing it all the better.  Elon Musk is a visionary with a capital V.  I first spotted him looking for love in Forbes Life a few months ago & most recently he was profiled on 60 Minutes as his company SpaceX made history on May 25th by being the first private company to successfully launch & dock a cargo ship to the International Space Station.  As if cofounding PayPal, producing the first fully electric sports car under his company Tesla Motors & his recent historical space launch weren't enough, Elon wants space travel to be an option for us non-astronauts in the near future.  Can you imagine?!  He dreams big & makes things happen (he was even the real life inspiration for genius inventor Tony Sparks, aka "Iron Man").  My favorite quote: "I don't ever give up.  I mean, I'd have to be dead or completely incapacitated."  Keep this guy on your radar screen- his swagger is going to have us all visiting Mars in no time.

Cheap Thrills

I was at the D&D Building the other day & it was terribly gray & rainy outside.  I caught a glimpse of my pale face in a mirror & felt an overwhelming desire to find the brightest lipstick that I could get away with.  I immediately high tailed it across the street to the MAC counter at Bloomingdale's (with a quick stop to inhale the below- a Magnolia chocolate cupcake with lavender vanilla buttercream- my favorite cheap thrill EVER).
Rihanna was blaring at the MAC counter & the sales girls were looking fierce in their edgy, colorful makeup.  I was starting to feel much more hopeful & my full blown cupcake high was definitely helping things.  I spotted this sexy little tube of bright pinky-coral lipstick & knew it was the one- MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Full Speed.  Great name too, makes you want to go tear things up!  It's the perfect color & consistency - not too opaque & lipstick-y but more of a slightly shiny & moisturizing gloss with the depth of a lipstick.  This will be my summer staple.  My little jaunt cost me less than $20 & all was right in the world if only for a few fleeting moments : )
